Gadhada III-17: The Story of Bharatji

Nirupan

Yogiji Mahārāj said, “Bharatji renounced the reign of the whole world for God; yet, he became attached to a young deer - that is a ‘miracle’. He had knowledge, yet he had a weakness, compassion that led to attachment. One should not have desires for women, wealth, disciples. When these become equivalent to dirt, that is a miracle. One should have love for God and the Sant instead; then, one becomes like them. But that love for the Satpurush does not develop. With what understanding can one’s desired by eradicated? With knowledge and grace.

“After listening to this narrative (of Bharatji) one should understand that they should not become bound by the world. If the great became bound, then what of us? They became bound because of sin. There are countless types of sins. The greatest sin, however, is for the devotee of God to have affection for anything other than God. What if one becomes attached to God’s devotees? Actually, that is what needs to be done. Should we remain dry (i.e., become devoid of affection)? One becomes ekāntik (by having affection for God and his devotees). We should have compassion for others, but not all the way. One should not have compassion such that their liberation is compromised.”

યોગીજી મહારાજ કહે, “ભગવાનને અર્થે ભરતજીએ આખી પૃથ્વીનું રાજ્ય છોડ્યું, છતાં મૃગલીનું બચ્ચું આડું આવ્યું એ ચમત્કાર! જ્ઞાન છતાં આસક્તિ, દયા, બંધન થયું. સ્ત્રી, દ્રવ્ય, ચેલામાં આસક્તિ ન રાખવી. એ ધૂળ થઈ જાય તે ચમત્કાર. ભગવાન ને સંતમાં એવું હેત કરવું. તો એ રૂપ થઈ જવાય. પણ અહીં (સત્પુરુષમાં) થતું નથી. શી સમજણથી આસક્તિ તૂટે? જ્ઞાન ને આશીર્વાદથી બંધન ન થાય.

“આ આખ્યાન સાંભળી સમજવાનું કે બંધાવું નહીં. જગતમાં આસક્તિ ન કરવી. આવા મોટા બંધાઈ ગયા તો આપણી શી ગુંજાશ? પાપે કરીને બંધાણા. અનંત પ્રકારનાં પાપ છે, ભગવાનના ભક્તને ભગવાન વિના બીજે ઠેકાણે હેત કરવું તે મોટું પાપ છે. ભગવાનના ભક્તોમાં આસક્તિ થાય તો? એ તો કરવાનું છે. લૂખા રહેવાનું છે? તેથી એકાંતિક થઈ જવાય. બીજા ઉપર દયા તો કરવી પણ ઠેઠ સુધીની ન કરવી. મોક્ષ ફરી જાય તેવી દયા ન કરવી.”
